Arko Crowned Goal King in Egypt

Ghanaian Ernest Papa Arko emerged top scorer for 2008/2009 Egyptian Premier League season which ended on Thursday with 12 goals.

The El-Gaish striker failed to score in their last match on Wednesday as they slipped 3-1 at the Cairo International Stadium against Al Ahly.

The 28-year-old beat competition from Ahli's Flavio Amado and Ahmed Gaafar of Telecom Egypt who finished joint second with 11 goals.

El-Gaish battled with relegation for the first half of the season but overhauled themselves to finish seventh on the league table.

Meanwhile, Eric Bekoe's Petrojet secured a last day 3-2 win over ENPPI to finish third and 12 points behind joint leaders Ahli and Ismaili.

Petroject will play in next year's Caf Confederation Cup.

My Ultimate Comment:

He was a wonderful chap to watch during his hay days with Liberty Professionals and is sure going to be a wonderful squad member.

On thoughts whether he holds the key to our goal scoring problems is another topic for discussion on another day.

Why was Obed not invited? We are left with 11 Glo Premier League matches to play and he heads the chart with 12 goals yet he has not been invited. Papa Arko has played the whole of the season with El-Gaish and scored a respectable 12 goals.

You see the difference? One might ask whats the essense of attending matches when the players on dispaly would not be invited into the local team.

I rest my case!
