Muntari Issues Apology to Ghanaians

Every decision and action have consequences. Muntari, GFA and the coach's action all have consequences. However, the right thing is what has been done for the future of the Black Stars and the consequences need to be faced whatever it may be. It suffices to say that his apology has been long over due. Was he testing the pulse of the coach, FA and the nation? Anyway better late than never. He should be forgiving but his inclusion needs to be thought through because of his repeated indisciplinary records and the setting of precedence. Muntari might have erred, but he has apologized.. and that's what is needed most!

Inter midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari has issued a grovelling apology to the people of Ghana and vowed his commitment to the Black Stars in the wake of his recent axing from the team.

Muntari also expressed his contrition to the coach of Ghana Milovan Rajevac and the management of the Ghana Football Association following recent events.

But the enforcer insists the recent events leading to his exclusion from the Black Stars is as a result of a "break in communication" and is keen on setting the records straight.

"I must first and foremost apologise to the people of Ghana, the coach Mr. Rajevac and the Ghana Football Association," Muntari told Ghanasoccernet in an exclusive interview.

"As the child in this matter my first point to apologise before explaining recent events which have led to this misunderstanding.

"My commitment first is to my country and the people and I want to assure Ghanaians that I am fully committed to the country which has made me who I am.

"I also want to assure Ghanaians, the coach and the GFA that I am not disobedient as a section of the media has painted me.

“I accept that if I had been proactive by telling the media my side of the story this perception would not have pervaded among the public

"On the specific issues that have been raised in various quarters it is fair that I address it between the coach, myself and the Ghana FA.

“I will soon seek audience with my coach to hear his concerns about me and to bring the matter to a full closure.

“My concentration is to return to the national team as soon as possible and return to doing my utmost best for my country.”

Even though Muntari has been accused of unruly behaviour when on national team duty, the Inter Milan says he is completely misunderstood.

“I am a very private and quiet person. I don’t say much but I have realised that when rumours go unanswered people tend to believe,” he said.

“I give my coaches, my colleagues, the management and the people of Ghana my utmost respect. I am an obedient and God fearing person and would not veer into being a recalcitrant.”

Muntari insists he will continue to play for Ghana and will do everything to return to the fold of the Black Stars despite his recent axing.

“My country has given me a lot in my career and I will never turn up to play for my country half-heartedly,” Muntari said.

“As I have done in the past I will continue to play forGhana with my heart and soul to bring joy to the millions of our fans.”

Rajevac left out Muntari out of his 23-man squad for the tournament in Angola where they play Ivory Coast, Togo and Burkina Faso in Group B.

Absentees will lose CAF Awards

Absentees will lose CAF Awards? This is ridiculous if not pure, unadulterated, sour stupidity. This is an insult to the likes of Frederic Kanoute who won the award on basis that the actual winner did not pitch. Players who accept the accolade under such circumstances will never be fully acknowledged by soccer loving people since that dark cloud will always be hanging above their heads. As for what happened last year, my candid opinion is that CAF deliberately held the awards ceremony while the AFCON was taking place at a different country and expected players to leave their team camps to attend the awards. This is pure madness and is one of those ridiculous issues that make one to be ashamed of being an African.. That absentees who genuinely deserve their award will be stripped of their award is absolutely daft.

Absentee nominees from the CAF Awards Gala in February will automatically lose their awards, even if they win, CAF has said.
Director of Communications Suleiman Habuba reiterated the condition at the unveiling of the final shortlist of five for the 2009 awards ceremony.

In 2008, Frederick Kanoute was handed the African Player of the Year Award after Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, who was believed to have received the most votes, opted against turning up.

"Anybody who does not show up, will not be given any award," Suleiman said at the unveiling ceremony on Thursday in Lagos.

This 2009 edition of the Awards Gala will hold in the Senegalese capital of Dakar, organisers announced on Thursday in Lagos.

Since being taken over by Nigerian telecommunications firm Globacom, the award has been held in Lagos, Accra and Lome.

Mario Balotelli for Black Stars?

There is no doubt Ballotelli is a great player given his mercurial artifice, but he'll only be a great addition to the Black stars on the condition that he deals with his class indiscipline, and augment his egregious character with a touch of that saintly humility. If he is to play for Ghana then we must be ready to shoulder with him the uncouth braggadocios and criticisms that will ensue. We must remember he is young and a bit naive, and also stitched on the stench of the amalgam of arrogance and inglorious pride. We do not need more Muntari-like attitudes, but want passion, patriotism and ability. I like him as a footballer, but Ghana needs more than a footballer. We need the exemplary kind to kindle buoyancy and unity within the team and to uplift the spirit of Ghanaians and the hopes of Africans..

Ghana captain Stephen Appiah says he backs moves by head coach Milovan Rajevac to lure Italian-born Inter Milan striker Mario Balotelli for their World Cup campaign, urging the youngster to answer the call.

The Bologna midfielder comments have confirmed an Italian newspaper report claiming the Serbian trainer had line-up talks with the burgeoning talent.

"I am very much in favour of it," the 29-year-old La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Although I do have to say that I don’t know anything about this. And I am not aware that our manager Rajevac is set to travel to Bologna to speak about it with me nor that I am supposed to take him to Milan to persuade Mario.

"I have come to know about it in the press and I have no basis to confirm the news."

"Ghana are already strong, but they would be even more with Mario," continued Appiah.

"We want to do well in South Africa and why should we throw away the chance to have a player like Balotelli with us?

"We would be happy if Balotelli came in to give us a hand. He has already proved his worth around Europe and has developed an important experience despite his young age."

The Biggest Weekend

A weekend that will go a long way in determining just who will have the last laugh... For the very first time, lets do some foreign sports. FIFA does the preview

Two titanic clashes bristling with rivalry and prestige in Spain and England stand out from the rest of the weekend programme around Europe. Barcelona and Real Madrid go head-to-head in La Liga, while Premier League leaders Chelsea travel to the north of London for the showdown with Arsenal.

The top three in Germany face stern tests of their championship credentials. In France, high-flying Auxerre visit the capital, with the all-Genoa derby top of the Italian bill of fare. FIFA.com previews the weekend action around the continent.

La Liga: Battle of the giants
Everything else on Matchday 12 in Spain is overshadowed by El Clasico, when Barcelona entertain Real Madrid. The Catalans remain unbeaten in the league this term, but Madrid are top of the pile and aim to stay there despite the seething partisanship they will encounter at Camp Nou. The game should provide a first true pointer as to the relative strength of the league’s dominant two this season.

Madrid also face Barcelona elsewhere, as relegation strugglers Atletico host Espanyol, themselves performing below expectations in tenth place on 13 points. Third-placed Sevilla would favour a draw in El Clasico, as they can make up ground on the front two by beating tail-enders Malaga. Valencia and Mallorca, fourth and sixth respectively, both need the points to stay in touch with the UEFA Champions League qualifying spots.

The question: Can Real travel to Barcelona and hand the champions their first defeat of the campaign?
The big game: Barcelona–Real Madrid, Sunday, 19:00, Camp Nou
The quote: "I’m definitely ready to play in Barcelona. I’m feeling good and I want to play. Now it’s down to the coach whether I start." Cristiano Ronaldo, Real Madrid

Premier League: Showdown in London
The 14th round of matches in the Premier League also includes a standout fixture, as leaders Chelsea make the short trip from west to north London determined to put distance between themselves and third-placed Arsenal. Something has to give when the meanest team Chelsea, with only eight goals against, meet the most prolific, the Gunners, who have scored 36.

Second-placed Manchester United appear to have a relatively simple task when they travel to bottom club Portsmouth. Fifth meet fourth in a battle between two clubs hoping to feature in next season’s Champions League: Aston Villa entertain Tottenham, the form team of the moment in the wake of last week’s 9-1 demolition job on Wigan.

The question: Can Arsenal maintain their perfect home record and make it six wins out of six when leaders Chelsea come calling?
The big game: Arsenal–Chelsea, Sunday, 17:00, Emirates Stadium
The quote: "We look confident, and we're playing with confidence. We've got some tough games coming up, we need to regroup now and make sure we're sharp for Arsenal." John Terry, Chelsea

Bundesliga: Toughies for table-toppers
The top three in the Bundesliga would probably have preferred easier fixtures on Matchday 14. Undefeated leaders Bayer Leverkusen entertain Champions League contenders Stuttgart, whose unimpressive league form sees them a lowly 16th, but who have every chance of making the last 16 in Europe’s elite club competition. Second-placed Werder Bremen, defeated only on opening day, also meet Champions League-class opponents with the visit of eighth-placed Wolfsburg.

Third-placed Schalke travel to mid-table Borussia Monchengladbach, who look a lot more stable now after taking eight points from their last four matches. Hoffenheim and Hamburg in fourth and fifth face intriguing fixtures against Borussia Dortmund (9th) and high-flying Mainz (6th), with all four clubs keen for points to remain there or thereabouts at the top.

The question: Can resurgent Stuttgart inflict a first league defeat of term on Bayer Leverkusen?
The big game: Werder Bremen–Wolfsburg, Saturday, 15:30, Weserstadion
The quote: "We have no reason to be scared. We’re especially strong away from home right now, although you can’t expect us to win all our away games." Heiko Westermann, Schalke

Serie A: Derby time in Genoa
The biggest game on Matchday 14 takes place in Milan, but the edgiest duel sees seventh-placed Genoa take on city rivals Sampdoria, three places above them in the standings. The home team are only four points off Samp and would re-enter contention for a Champions League finish if they win. For their part, Sampdoria need the points to stay within touching distance of top trio Inter, Juventus and AC Milan.

The leaders meet Fiorentina, arguably the surprise package of the campaign to date. The men from Tuscany not only lie a creditable sixth in the table, they sealed a berth in the Champions League first knockout round during the week. Juve visit eighth-placed Cagliari, while Milan take on second-from-bottom Catania.

The question: Can promoted Parma maintain or improve on fifth spot by beating Napoli?
The big game: Inter-Fiorentina, Sunday, 15:00, San Siro
The quote: "I’m delighted about Totti’s hat-trick last weekend, because he’s proved yet again his ability to come back from serious injury." Marcello Lippi, Italy coach

Ligue 1: Depleted Auxerre seek capital gains
In-form Auxerre, French champions back in 1996, currently top the standings on the back of seven straight wins, although Polish marksman Ireneusz Jelen is out of the trip to Paris Saint-Germain with injury. Closest pursuers Bordeaux visit twelfth-placed Nancy, where coach Laurent Blanc will doubtless expect his Girondins side to pick up maximum points. Third-placed Lyon will be chasing the same reward against mid-table Rennes. Eighth-placed Monaco’s meeting with Montpellier, who are fifth but a mere two points off the lead, has been called off due to an outbreak of swine flu at the promoted club.

The question: Can leaders Auxerre make it eight wins on the bounce when they travel to face Paris Saint-Germain?
The big game: Paris Saint-Germain–Auxerre, Saturday, 19:00, Parc des Princes
The quote: "It’s easier for us all when he (Ireneusz Jelen) plays. He’s the driving force behind our play. Without him, we’ll have the same problems we had back in the summer." Jean Fernandez, Auxerre coach

Elsewhere
Bundesliga fans in Austria are licking their lips at the prospect of the nation’s biggest showdown when second-placed RB Salzburg meet leaders Rapid Vienna. The clubs are level on points, so top spot is the prize on offer for the winners on Matchday 17. A draw would benefit third-placed Austria Vienna, provided the men from the capital overcome bottom club Austria Karnten.

Similar excitement is on the cards in Greece. Champions and cup holders Olympiakos are second in the Super League, but entertain leaders Panathinaikos this weekend and can leapfrog their way to the top of the pile with a win.

Ghana Held By Mali

Those people who were raving, ranting and boasting of an easy ride for Ghana have now got eggs splashed on their faces. It is clear these people did not give much thought to the cavalier preparations by the Black Stars as if there was nothing important at stake. We will be living in delusion if we think we can beat any team any how on any day with shoddy preparations.

2-2? Pathetic. We went for a stroll in the park but ended up fighting for our lives. I think the formation that we played the second half should start against Angola. Like I always say, "we have to get our passes together." And one very IMPORTANT thing. We play long balls to our strikers. Then you will see only one or at most both strikers fighting against the 4 or more defenders. The midfield doesn't join in the attack till the forwards loose the ball. We need to rectify these two mistakes very fast before the World Cup. Even before the ACN. By the way, I now believe what most people have been saying for a long time. Sulley is loosing his quality!!! Asamoah should have come on a long time ago. Sorry Sulley, I have always been your number 1 fan. I hope things change at the next match. Am glad we kept our high prided status though.

Ghana ended their World Cup qualifying campaign in an unimpressive fashion as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Mali in Kumasi on Sunday.

The Black Stars were expected to dominate the Group D game as they had already secured the group's sole ticket to the tournament in South Africa next year.

But the Malians had revenge on their minds as they were looking to avenge the defeat they suffered at the hands of their opponents in the first group meeting in Bamako in June.

Ghana used all their key players available including captain Stehpen Appiah, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari while the Malian were without key stars Fredi Kanoute, Seydou Keita and Mahamadou Diarra.

The Black Stars looked confident and dominated the early exchanges but strikers Asamoah Gyan and Matthew Amoah fluffed good scoring opportunities set up by Appiah and Essien respectively.

Mali took the lead against the run of play when 's cross was met with a fierce drive from Lassana Fane that gave Ghana keeper Ricahrd Kingson on chance.

Ghana responded immediately but Amoah's header came off the bar while Muntari grazed the post.

Matthew Amoah drew the Black Stars level in the 64th minute when the Malian goalkeeper failed to handle a long-range drive from Asamoah Gyan.

The Holland-based forward followed up with another drive that left the Malian shot stopper sprawling.

But the Eagles were not to be cowed by the reinvigorated home side as they went in the lead once again.

The Ghanaian defence was caught napping and a diving header from went unchallenge and beat goalkeeper Richard Kingson.

THe Black Stars revived themselves and in the 83rd Anthony Annan headed in Eric Addo's free-kick to save the blushes of the Black Stars.

Ghana finished top of the group with 13 points from their six matches, while Mali had to be satisfied with third spot with nine points, one behind second-placed Benin.

Mali finished in third place - one point adrift of Benin - but they will still play in January's African Nations Cup. Ghana will plunge into their Nations Cup prepapration from Wednesday when they play Angola in a friendly in Luanda.

The Black Stars had already secured their place at next year's World Cup having sealed Group D's top spot two months ago.

Dede Ayew Seeks Marseille Exit Door

Excellent decision by DEDE. Marseille treated him like no-body, he must stick to his decision and leave the club after his loan expires. shame on Marseille for this kind of cheap tactics to deny DEDE bright future. I would opine for Ayew to leave before they mess-up his dreams because he is such an unbelievable quality and has got a bright future.

Ghanaian youngster Andre Ayew has told Marseille that he wants to leave the club in order to boost his international hopes even though the giants are keen for him to stay now.

The 19-year-old forward won the Under-20 World Cup with Ghana earlier this month and is pushing for a place back in the senior squad having already won 15 caps.

The African Nations Cup is in January while Ghana have already qualified for next summer's World Cup, which will be the first to be held on African soil.

Son of legendary Marseille winger Abedi Pele, Ayew feels that he is no longer wanted at the Stade Velodrome having had an unsuccessful trial at Hertha Berlin this summer before joining second division side Arles-Avagnon on loan until the end of the season.

But Ayew is angling for a permanent move in the January transfer window to a more high-profile club which can also offer him regular first-team football.

"For me, Marseille gave me permission to leave in August," he told skysports.com.

"I'm an ambitious player and playing on loan at Arles-Avignon has not brought my playing level down, even if it is Ligue 2.

"I'm really excited about this year and I want to be involved in the African Nations Cup and the World Cup, where my country has a great chance of doing very well.

"If I don't play week-in, week-out I can't go to those two tournaments, which are huge for my young career."

Ayew has so far made nine appearances for Marseille and spent last season on loan at fellow Ligue 1 side Lorient, scoring three times in 22 games.

But Marseille's sport director, Jose Anigo, insists that Ayew is still part of their plans and they are only willing to let him go for good money.

"He is a very good player and he can't be transferred unless we receive an exceptional offer for him," said Anigo.

"He is part of a great future for Marseille and will be part of the team in June."

Ghana Reach Under-20 Final

Congratulations to the Black Satellites for making it to the finals, but let me hasten to say that the Satellites must work on their central defense before the grand finale and also quit that sense of complacency anytime they are leading in a match.I hope the cup will remain in Africa for the first time.

A thunderbolt from Abeiku Quansah was the difference as Ghana survived a late comeback from Hungary to book their place in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt 2009. Leading 2-0 with just under 20 minutes to go thanks to a first half brace from Dominic Adiyiah, Quansah's 81st minute effort was sandwiched in between strikes from substitutes Marko Futacs and Balazs Megyeri.

Yet, this was a game that Ghana deserved to win. They served notice of their intent as early as the ninth minute when Mohammed Rabiu sent a right footed shot over the bar and a minute later they were ahead. Adam Presinger's sloppy back pass was seized upon by Andre Ayew, who took it past the keeper, slipped it towards the net and Adiyiah bundled it over the line before Presinger had chance to clear.

The Africans were in complete control in the opening 45 minutes, but had a tendency to surrender possession too easily, which created a few nerves, especially given the calibre of striker that Hungary have in their ranks. Ayew and Osei had shots which were fairly comfortable for Peter Gulasci, but the keeper could do nothing about the Satellites second, which came shortly after the half hour mark.

Samuel Inkoom's cross from the right was met with a confident downward header by Gulacsi who celebrated his eighth of the tournament in style. The only shot on goal worthy of note from the Europeans during the first half came when Mate Kiss's free-kick was comfortably claimed by Daniel Agyei.

Just before the break, Osei saw another shot well saved by Gulacsi and Adiyiah went close again with a shot on the turn which went narrowly wide.

Hungary made two changes at the break, which saw Presinger and the injured Nemeth replaced by Balazs Megyeri and Roland Varga respectively. The changes also saw Andras Gosztonyi move into a more advanced role and he almost pulled one back for Hungary in the 48th minute when he dragged a shot just across the face of goal.

Megyeri went close in the 52nd minute when he connected with Gosztonyi's free-kick at the far post, but his right footed effort cannoned off the outside of the post and away to safety. Varga's dangerous cross narrowly evaded three Hungarian players and with time ticking away in the 71st minute, it was time for the final throw of the dice, with Marko Futacs coming on for captain Zsolt Korcsmar.

It took two minutes to pay off. Andras Simon slipped the ball to the big striker inside the box and he made no mistake. Predictably, it set up a grandstand finish. Gosztonyi delivered fine balls for Varga and Janos Szabo, but they both wasted their chances, failing even to trouble the keeper.

With Hungary committing men forward, Ghana took advantage. Adiyiah slipped the ball to Opuko Agyemang, who found Quansah on the right side of the box and he crashed a shot off the underside of the crossbar to restore Ghana's two goal advantage with nine minutes to go.

The Black Satellites should have been cruising by this point, but a defensive lapse from David Addy allowed Hungary back into the game. The striker's first touch should have been dealt with by the left back, but his slip allowed Megyeri to take advantage; as all he had to do was pass the ball past Agyei and into the net.

Yet, despite the deficit being reduced once again, it was Ghana who came closest to scoring in added time when Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu rattled the crossbar with a ferocious right footed shot. Two minutes later it was all over and the Black Satellites were celebrating their progression to their third appearance in the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Ghana Show Class Against Soth Africa

Great win for Ghana. It was a tremendous come from behind win. Our defenders must watch out for the lapse that made the team fall behind. S Korea may be too fast to handle in such cases. It was a good show piece by the two teams. Congrats to the Satellites and keep your head up Amajita. Well I must say South Africa did very well. They played good football and they were fast but the Satellites were very resilient. Well done boys. It was a game full of anxiety but once again Africa has won the day. I pray my dear satellites go all the way to win the tournament. Long live Africa. Keep your heads up guys and be proud of yourselves!

Amajita were beaten 2-1 by Ghana in extra time in the Last 16 of the 2009 Fifa Under-20 World Cup on Tuesday.

It was a brave performance from Serame Letsoaka's side, but they ran out of steam going into extra-time and the greater endurance of the Black Satelittes saw them claim the win. Ghana will now meet Korea Republic in the quarterfinals.

Andre Ayew and Dominic Adiyiah netted for the west Africans, while Kermit Erasmus showed a sublime touch to score for Amajita, giving his side a second half lead. Ghana had Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu harshly sent-off late in the game, but the South Africans could not make their numerical advantage count.

Adiyiah fired over when well placed early on, while Abeiku Quansah shot straight at Darren Keet from the free-kick.

Erasmus wriggled free in the box and managed to get a shot away, but it was comfortable for Ghana goalkeeper Daniel Agyei, who had a smarter save to make from Sibusiso Khumalo soon afterwards.

Thulani Serero found the top corner with a stunning 30-yard free-kick, but Agyei had got across and palmed the ball away for a corner, while the best chance of the half fell to Thulani Hlatswayo, but he sent his free header wide.

Sameehg Doutie did well to stay on his feet when free in the box after receiving a push in the back, and after Agyei dived at his feet to make the save, he might have wished he had gone down.

Ayew flashed a header wide early in the second period, the first real chance of the second half, while at the other end Erasmus fired a left-footed shot that Agyei got down well to save.

But South Africa had the lead on 58 minutes when Erasmus collected a free-kick with a brilliant first touch and rounded Agyei to put Amajita in the lead.

But Ghana were level on 66 minutes when Ayew headed past Keet after some hesitant defending from South Africa as the free-kick was floated into the box.

Serero had a tame shot straight at Agyei, while Maluleke had a long-range effort saved by the Ghana stopper as the match went into extra-time.

But the game was won nine minutes into extra time when Adiyiah smashed home a brilliant shot from the edge of the area with Keet having no chance.

Adiyiah saw his volley brilliantly saved by Keet, while Quansah looped a cross onto the top of the crossbar.

Ghana were unlucky to be reduced to 10 men when Agyemang-Badu received his yellow card for what the referee interpreted as a dive, when he was clearly brought down by the defender.

Ghana Draw South Africa

Lets avoid complacency! Tha t's all i can say because the South Africans will be coming with much determination to carry the day .But i hope we can overcome them.

Ghana's Under-20 have drawn African qualifiers South Africa in the next stage of the Fifa World Youth Championship in Egypt on Tuesday.

The Black Satellites survived a rapid comeback from the South Africans in the semi-finals of the African championship after throwing away a 3-1 lead to but won 4-3 en route to winning the tournament.

They have been unimpressive at the World Cup despite showing promising prospects at the African qualifiers.

South Africa took their place with a thoroughly deserved 2-0 win over Honduras to finish as one of the third best qualifiers.

Bafana Bafana, who were reduced to 10 men late in the match, completely dominated to claim a first-ever victory at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

They had gone into this match bottom of the section, knowing that while a draw would suffice for their opponents, only a win would be enough to see them through.

Rabiu Ban Not to be Appealed

It was first reported in the media that it wasnt a case the FA would follow suit but I think they have changed their thoughts. Who said Ghana should not appeal against the ban? Eduardo of Arsenal was banned after he was adjudged to have dived to deceive the referee to award a penalty to Arsenal against Celtic in a UEFA Champions League game. Arsenal appealed against the ban and it was overturned and Eduardo went on to score in the next game Is it timidity, fear or the proverbial "fa ma nyame" syndrome at work? They should appeal and call for the video to be replayed.
There is a conspiracy at work during the tournament as can be seen from officiating. This same thing happened to South Africa in their first group match against UAE. Nigeria lost two players through red cards, South Africa and Cameroun also had their players sent off and later Ghana. It is time the voice of African football officials are heard in the corridors of FIFA. We have the players to win these tournaments but we are always undone by racist match officials. Enough is enough!

The Black Satellites will not appeal against the ban of midfielder Rabiu Mohammed who was sent off during last night's final Group D match against Uruguay in Ismailia.

Mohammed's celebrations of opening scoring account in the 54th minute turned soar when Crotian referee Ivan Bebek dismissed him 21 minutes later.

The Sampdoria player was given a straight red card for a high challenge on Aguirregaray.

A high profile management committee member told Ghanasoccernet they will not contest his wrongful matching off.

But that could change after a meeting with Ghana Football Association vice President Fred Pappoe on Saturday morning.

Head coach Sellas Tetteh has placed a low key on his absence but admits the player has been functional in their game plan.

"He is a good player and we're going to miss him but that I will mean there are people on the bench who can do the job. Rabiu is a very good player." Tetteh said.

He will miss two matches in the tournament.

Egypt Welcomes Our Heroes!

I have my own indifferences per our team thats representing us in the Pharoah land of Egypt. The odds go for us as one of the favourites but a closer look at the team brings out quite a bit of shock. My problem is with the team structure of 3 goalkeepers, 9 defenders, 6 midfielders and only 3 strikers (Ransford Osei, Dominic Adiyiah and Latif Salifu). Should any of our strikers get injured, are we going to convert midfielders or defendres into strikers? This brings into focus the case of Yartey and Adams. Yartey especially can combine more with Osei than Adiyiah. Unfortunately, the boy from the Aspire Academy (Benson) is also a defender.

The Black Satellites go to the FIFA U-20 World Cup as African champions, credentials strong enough to mark them out among the early favourites. The global youth title, however, is something of a Holy Grail for the African continent, having proven an elusive prize in the past despite many African teams flirting with success in the final stages of the tournament. For the 2009 edition, Ghana will carry the realistic hopes of the continent and hope to enrich an already impressive pedigree at youth level in FIFA tournaments. It will be the Black Satellites have fifth time at the FIFA U-20 World Cup finals, the last time coming in Argentina eight years ago when they finished runners-up.

Qualifying
Ghana won the African Youth Championship in Rwanda in January, beating Cameroon 2-0 in the final. They started the tournament slowly with a 1-1 draw against the Indomitable Lions but then made sure of top spot in their group with wins over Mali and the host nation before beating South Africa 4-2 in the semi-final.

Coach
Sellas Tetteh was coach of Ghana's senior side, the Black Stars, when they started the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers last June and was bitterly disappointed to be removed when the Ghana FA appointed Serbian Milovan Rajevac. Tetteh had worked as one of the assistants with the national team during the terms of Claude Le Roy, whose spell culminated with third place at the 2008 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, and Ratomir Dujkovic, when Ghana went to the finals in Germany in 2006 and took charge of the match against Brazil in Dortmund when the Serbian coach was red carded. Tetteh began his coaching career with Ghanaian top flight outfit Liberty Professionals.

Star players
Ransford Osei was both the best player at the African Youth Championship in Rwanda and top goal scorer, netting seven times. The Israeli-based striker is one of several players in the Ghana squad who are based at clubs overseas. The side is captained by Dede Ayew, eldest son of former African Footballer of the Year Abedi Pele. Ayew, who plays at Lorient in France, also played for Ghana's senior side at the 2008 CAF Africa Cup of Nations. Others standouts are David Addy (Randers FC, Denmark), Dominic Adiyiah (Fredrikstad, Norway) and Abeiku Quansah (both OG Nice, France) and Jonathan Mensah, who plays at South African club Free State Stars.

Record
Egypt 2009 will be Ghana's fifth appearance at a FIFA U-20 World Cup and Ghana have twice reached the final of the U-20 showpiece.

What they said...
"For eight years we have not been to the U-20 World Cup so to return as champions of Africa is remarkable. It's gratifying to me that we're not just winning but also doing so by playing beautiful football," Ghana U-20 coach Sellas Tetteh.

Asamoah Gyan Hits Higher Heights!

Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is on the verge of recapturing the assertiveness that characterized his goalscoring form after netting four gaols-Ligue 1's joint topscorer- for Rennes in the early stages of the season.

Things are looking up for the Ghana striker, who has a second World Cup finals appearance to look forward to with the Black Stars.

Gyan, 23, scored twice at the weekend in Rennes' 4-0 away demolition of bottom club Grenoble, a result which maintained the Breton club's unbeaten start to the season.

His first of the game was the fastest goal seen this season in Ligue 1, coming after just 19 seconds.

New coach Frédéric Antonetti, who replaced Guy Lacombe this summer, has helped Gyan get back to the sort of form which saw Rennes splash out 8 million euros to sign him from Serie A outfit Udinese in the summer of 2008.

Gyan spent the ensuing campaign battling injury niggles and a system which did not bring the best out of him. He finished the season with a solitary goal from his 16 Ligue 1 appearances.

Gyan: "Last season was tough"

Gyan said: "Last season was tough. I was often injured, and it was a never-ending story. I'm happy to have been able to put a run of games together without getting injured. It's a big relief. The current coach is far more attacking than the old one. Guy Lacombe's priority was defence and I'm a forward."

Ex-Nice coach Antonetti had no hesitation in handing Gyan the central attacking role in his 4-3-3 formation, a move which removed the need to delve into the transfer market.

"When I looked at the squad I discovered 'Asa', who I didn't know, by watching videos," said Antonetti. "We already had our centre-forward right here, so there was no point in going out and finding one."

Generosity

Gyan spent the summer working hard with Rennes' fitness coach Karl Chaory on Ghanaian beaches to give him every chance of living up to his transfer fee, albeit a year after his arrival.

His first goal of the season, a penalty against Nice, owed something to the generosity of his new team-mate Ismaël Bangoura.

"I asked him to let me take it," admitted Gyan. "I wanted to boost my confidence. I was playing well without managing to score, so I was sad. Goalscoring is my job.
Four goals is good and my confidence is coming back."

World Cup with Black Stars:

Gyan has also been on the goals trail with Ghana. Two in a 4-3 friendly defeat to Japan on September 9 took his tally to 13 in 27 games for his country.

Three days prior to that Gyan came on as a substitute as Ghana beat Sudan 2-0 to qualify for their second successive World Cup.

Gyan already has a special place in Ghanaian football history. As a precocious 19-year-old in Germany three years ago he scored Ghana's first ever World Cup goal, 68 seconds in to a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic.

Back to fitness, and with the goals flowing there is every chance that Gyan will shine in South Africa next year.

"I've nothing left to prove," said Gyan. "Back home, people know who I am and what I'm worth. I just need to be fit to be there."

Laryea Kingston Still in Hearts' Plans!

Its about time we faced the real issues and set the records straight with this Laryea case. I am driven by hot blood to say that Laszlo is a twerp. Ke knows that without Laryea, they will struggle. Bra Laryea, please put everything on the downside. What matters is your performance. Just go ahead and do what you do best to shun your distractors . I really don't know what you did wrong. You said you were fit, they say you are not. You proved yourself right by featuring for your national team. I just want to know if there is any clause that prohibits your from playing for your national team? Would same have been done with a fellow Scottish player?

Hearts manager Csaba Laszlo insists Laryea Kingston still has a future at Tynecastle despite being hit by a club maximum four-week fine.

The Ghana international was punished by the SPL outfit last week for allegedly disrespecting the Hearts coaching team over Black Stars call-up, a claim he denies.

Laszlo insists he would never be critical of a player's nation and believes the players should just as respectful towards their employers.

Although Hearts made public Kingston's hefty fine, Laszlo insists he does not have a problem with the player and has backed his quality.

Laszlo would be happy handing him a recall, although he believes Kingston must give 100 per cent to win over the club's fans.

"With Larry Kingston we made a statement in the direction of the media," Laszlo told the club's official website.

"Me, personally, I don't have any problem with Larry Kingston.

"I am happy about every player which can play for his country, but I said to you before you cannot say the club is not so important. You must respect the club.

"If we respect the national team and prepare you here for the national team you must respect our work.

"If he is [at] top fitness and also the supporters need to see he gives 100 per cent. It is indifferent whether he is playing 20 minutes or 90 minutes. We need to see him in the right direction.

"The acceptance must be there [from supporters]. In this business if you don't have the performance you cannot get acceptance and this is the dangerous game.

"This is why Larry is not training direct with the first team, indirect yes, but he must get his performance back to have a good game in normal league games.

"Larry Kingston can definitely help the team with his football knowledge and experience. He is a good player.

"We can talk about a lot of things but Larry Kingston is one which has as lot of ability, especially in this league and if he is 100 per cent fit and his head is clear he can help any team."

Essien Certain of Bamako Victory

Maximum respect to the ''Bison''.

A true warrior and a soccer soldier for Ghana. For this single act of patriotism, God will enlarge his coast. He could have easily opted out of this match due to the court issue, but he has moved on and put all behind him for the sake of our land.

When others are just giving all sorts of excuses, he has not done so though he would have been justified to do so. Lets all rally behind the team.

Just hear the Deputy Minister of Sports on radio commenting about some dirty tactics being employed by the Malians to frustrate the Stars' mandatory training on the match venue. They should watch their dubious acts, because they will pay dearly for it. God bless GH.

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien says the Black Stars are going all outfor maximum points when they take on Mali in a World Cup qualifier on Sunday.

The Chelsea ace joined his Black Stars colleagues on early on Friday morning after a court appearance in Accra over his ex-girlfriend.

Despite his court appearance for two days, the midfielder was spotted in East Legon, a suburb of Accra, jogging at night to keep him fit for the Mali tie.

Essien insists that he is mentally focused for the crucial clash and he is confident the Black Stars can rake all three points in the game in Bamako.

“I have put behind me everything as we are all firmly focused for this game,” Essien told Ghanasoccernet.com.

“We are all ready to die for our country and I know we will succeed.

“We are not going for draw as we want the maximum three points in Mali. We have been to the World Cup and we want to go there again.”

Ghana will maintain top spot in Group Four if they beat the Malians at their own backyard.

Fans Blast Sulley's Decision

It seems Muntari has moved on as far as his commitment and future with the Black Stars and Ghana as a whole is concerned. Ghana, the Black Stars and their coach have also moved on, and we will move on all the way the world cup!

Muntari's mother said, "No Muntari no Black Stars,". Well she is wrong because Black Stars are now in Mali. She and her son should bow down their heads in shame. And no matter the out come of the match, the sacrifice by these new guys is enough for most Ghanaians!

What Muntari should ask himself is that, will players like lampard,Gerrard or any world class player come up with such a silly injury excuse just to avoid a national call up?

I personally believe Kwadwo Asamoah and the other guys will do a good job in his absence but if because of his stupid decision Ghana don't qualify then he'll have only himself to blame if the best players in the world parade in South Africa to showcase their talent whilst he will be home alone. Muntari your a disgrace to your nation!

Ghanaian football Fans have descended heavily on Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Muntari for absenting himself for the Ghana-Mali joint 2010 qualifier which will be played on Sunday.

The 24-year-old sent a medical report to the Black Stars management committee stating his inability to feature in the crucial qualifier.

But fans believe his excuse is implausible and a deliberate attempt to ruin Ghana's world cup qualification campaign.

Muntari dropped hint of ending his international future after his girl-friend had a scuffle with a policeman during the Benin game in March this year at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Fans vented their spleen on all radio phone-in sports programmes in Accra questioning his commitment level.

Some fans also lambasted his mum who once granted an interview with a local radio station and said:" No Muntari, no Black Stars."

The former Liberty Professionals player hogged the headlines after playing for Ghana at the Fifa Youth Championship in 2001.

Abedi Trusts Milo's Work

I like that spirit. Although Abedi Pele's son Andre Ayew is not in the squad, he has no hard feelings against the coach nor the team. This is what we need. Lets expect the best on Sunday especially from the youngsters Kwadwo Asamoah and Prince Tagoe
We need someone who can inspire the confidence of the players in the wake of the withdrawal of some of the notable players of the national team through injuries and so call personal problems. Abedi has shown the way.

The task ahead is tortuous but with support and prayers, it is surmountable

Ghana football legend Abedi Ayew Pele has expressed full confidence in Black Stars coach Milovan Rajevac to get a favourable result in their combined 2010 qualifier against Mali on Sunday in Bamako. The three-time African footballer of the year believes the Serbian can hatch up a game plan to keep the Malian side at bay.

Ayew says the team can overcame their patchy build up with the withdrawal of Captain Stephen Appiah and injured Asamoah Gyan, Laryea Kingston and Sulley Muntari.

“I think the coach has done a good job so far, I believe he should be given confidence and time to carry on with his work, and I am sure he can make,” Ayew told All Sports.

The football maestro insists the current set-up can withstand the intimidating atmosphere in Bamako.

Milovan's 22 Bamako Battle Crusaders.

Goalkeepers:

Richard Kingston (Wigan Athletic, England): The continent’s number one goalkeeper undoubtedly would make up the squad for the match in Bamako and already a starter as the day grows near. A couple of English Premier League matches, most notably against Manchester United at the JJB Stadium, has shone the lights once more on the strengths and qualities of ‘’Olele’’. Quick dashes, brilliant reflex saves and a commanding figure in the Black Star team set-up made him a fan’s favorite during the 2006 Germany World Cup mundial and the African Cup of Nations in Accra last year. An assured start on Milo’s team sheet.

George Owu (Al Masry, Egypt): The former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold goalie has made promising strides in the Egyptians League this season. One of the most consistent players in the Al Masry team set-up and obviously one of the most experienced players in the Black Star team as well. Lots of team character under his belt and a commanding figure like Richard when is the posts except that he takes very little notice of his back four’s lapses.

Defenders:

John Pantsil (Fulham, England): Ghana’s best player this season. Pantsil has some bags of nerves to go the somewhat unachievable status of playing 37 English Premier League matches. Dynamic at the back, solid on the counter attack and very strong in his challenges and when on the ball. It’s no surprising news to hear Roy Hougson describe the former Berekum Arsenal lad as ‘’one of his highly rated stars this season’’. Obviously a much needed bite to the Black Star cherry.

Samuel Inkoom (Asante Kotoko, Ghana): To the legion of soccer-passionate fans especially in Kumasi, Inkoom makes another celebrated walk into the Black Star team. Inkoom, who is headed for the Swiss league to play for FC Basel next season, has shown not only to his peers and fans-alike that he is ready for the national cause. Plays his heart out every time he puts on the national colours. A commanding performance by the right back at the Under-20 African Championship in Rwanda.

Harrison Afful (Asante Kotoko, Ghana): The best left back in the country now. It’s no surprise that he has been included in the squad for the trip to Mali. The former Gomoa Fetteh Feyenoord lad even though has fallen below the standards that saw him dispatch Hans Adu Sarpie, still has lots of playing time in him. A much-needed inclusion in the team.

John Mensah (Lyon, France): Sometime past, a hot commodity of the radar’s of English Premiership clubs especially Wigan Athletic and Tottenham Hotspur. A firm and loyal footballer, experienced, strong and increasingly confident on the pitch. The Black Star assistant skipper hasn’t enjoyed much playing time at Lyon not because they doubt his footballing techniques but due to his injury-plagued season. The ‘’Rock of Gibraltar’’ has a point to prove surely like Milo rightly said.

Jonathan Mensah (Free State Stars, South Africa): A superb performance from the young star when he played in the Under-20 team that won the gold medal at the Under-20 African Championship last year. A super-resistant player with unending tactical abilities which makes Milo’s back four a bit more balanced with his addition.

Jonathan Quartey (Kaizer Chiefs, South Africa): I watched him play Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes during the Vodafone Tournament in the off-season last year which Manchester United was a part. He struck to his instructions and made a lasting impression on the minds of every Ghanaian soccer-loving fan who had the chance to watch the match. A quality inclusion to the team.

Eric Addo (Roda JC, Holland): The most experienced player in this current Black Star team. A vastly traveled player and his inclusion bring a bit of stability to the Bamako squad. The former PSV Eindhoven player even though isn’t a defender has played hit hearts out any time that he has been asked to fill the void that’s left behind. A far better player to keep the likes of Seydou Keita and Frederic Kanoute at bay.

Midfielders:

Daniel Yeboah (Heart of Lions, Ghana): He made the headlines of every newspaper and was the top of every news item on the airwaves after his commanding performance against Lesotho in the joint 2010 South Africa World Cup and Angola Qualifiers at the Essipong Stadium in Takoradi. The former Liberty Professional midfielder is a Milo’s sure bet for the squad. I admire most his charming resilience in the middle of the park.

Isaac Vorsah (Hoffeinham, Germany): Isaac Vorsah has been the package of the season in as much as Hoffeinham has been the revelation of the Bundes Liga season. A truly committed player whose footballing skills could have a telling effect on the Black Star team.

Moussa Narry (Auxerre, France): After a short stint in the Egyptian League, Narry has become the backbone of the Auxerre team in the Ligue 1 Championship this year. A combination of class and talent. Wonderful addition to our soccer national team.

Michael Essien (Chelsea, England): The winner of Chelsea’s Goal of the Season would have a large part to play in the ‘’Battle of Bamako’’. Obviously, the strongest link in the much celebrate trio (Sulley and Appiah being the others) at the World Cup. Charismatic and unordinary gifted, Essien has drawn a lot of adoration from a fan base that is not restricted to men nor sports fans. He is one of those rare individuals whose play on the field no one begrudges.

Anthony Annan (Rosenborg, Norway): A debut against the Brazil national team in Stockholm, Sweden was the running point of the former Hearts of Oak and Hasaacas diminutive midfielder. A much-improved player and a sure of a starting berth in the Bamako contest.

Kwadwo Asamoah (Udinese, Italy): Started off the bench prior to the start of the Serie A season but has made modest strides in the Udinese team ever since. A quick feet and more of the Ghanaian-version of Joe Cole.

Bernard Kumordzi (Panionios FC, Greece): The former Meteors’ assistant skipper has proven a worthy call up concerning his team out put in the Greece Super League.

Prince Buabeng (Dundee United, Scotland): Glad to finally have Buabeng back to the team after he had short stint with the senior national team. A starter in the Dundee United set-up and a wonderful chap to watch. Milo heard of my cry for his inclusion I guess.

Yusif Chibsah (Gefle, Sweden): Once the midfield general of a growing Ghanaian generation of stars. After skippering the Black Meteors’ at the Athens Olympic Games in Greece, Chibsah fell off the pedal a bit but is back to his best after a couple of decent performances for Gefle SC in the Swedish League.

Opoku Agyemang (Al Sadd, Qatar) : Little knowledge about him after he left Ashanti Gold to play in the Qatar League. He was a delight to watch in the Ugandan game at the Tamale Stadium.

Haminu Draman (FC Locomotive Moskva, Russia): A good addition as always. Remember the horror and torture he went through prior to the mundial in Germany? Now he is a much-improved player and a worthy inclusion to the team.

Samuel Kyere: A great inclusion

Strikers:

Asamoah Gyan (Rennes, France): If there is any Ghanaian sports personality who has been worst hit by injuries much more than Asamoah, I would love to know. His first season with Ligue 1 club Rennes hasn’t been the best. Hoping that he comes back with a bang to make all of us proud.

Mathew Amoah (NAC Breda, Holland): The NAC Breda striker was before the Junary transfer session Ghana’s most brilliant footballer. A good part of the cherry now I guess.

Prince Tagoe (Al-Ittifaq, Saudi Arabia) : His goal scoring rate in the Saudi League leaves Milo with little option than to include the ‘’prince of goals’’ in his squad. Getting the fans to scream and shout his name hasnt come on a silver platter. Prince has worked hi way through and he deserves every bit of the call up.

Joe Tex Frimpong (BSC Young Boys, Switzerland): Quality addition. After winning two CAF Champions League with Enyimba of Nigeria, Joe Tex hasnt been the fearsome striker we know him to be. But trust that he would make the best out of this situation.

Papa Arko (El Geish, Egypt): After winning the goal-king this season with El Geish in the Egyptian League, former Liberty Professional’s player, Papa Arko had every right to be in this team. A wonderful inclusion, Milo.

Junior Agogo (unattached): A great inclusion after a sour season with Zamalek in the Egytian League. Has always found his foot in the national colours and I am tempted to believe that he would do same in Bamako.

Painstil Rues Appiah's Absence

My Ultimate Comment:
Every Ghanaian admires and appreciates what Appiah has done for Ghana
and it sure didnt help my pride and ego as a Ghanaian with this news.

Hoping the star player gets back to the team for the Sudan match.

The Fulham and Black Stars defender says it will be difficult to beat Mali in the joint World and Nations Cup qualifier next month without skipper Stephen Appiah.

The skipper pulled out of the game citing personal reasons, but Joy Sports checks indicate the decision is in reaction to criticisms that he is inactive.

But for call-ups for national duties, Appiah has not played competitive football for nearly two years, having been sidelined for injuries.

His failure to sign for Tottenham and a Russian side has not helped matters either.

Paintsil in an interview with Joy Sports said Appiah's absence is a big blow to the team.

It is going to be difficult without Appiah. If there is anything to bring him back that will be better."

The Stars play Mali on June 7 in Bamako and will play as guests of Sudan two weeks later in two crucial qualifiers.

As part of preparations towards the games the Black Stars played Division Two side King Solomom FC in a pulsating 2-2 game at the Elwak Sports Stadium.

Opoku Agyemang and Bernard Yao Kumordzi scored for the Stars.

Essien to Miss Mali Clash?

My Ultimate Comment:

Surely not the best piece of news we would have loved to hear prior to our Mali game. Reports suggest that he is headed for court this morning and we hope it all ends up there.

He is a key player in Milo's squad and his absence in the team invariably would cause a huge space.

Get on a private plane and head for Tamale, The Bison!

Ghana midfielder Michael Essien remains a doubt for the Black Stars 2010 joint Nations Cup/World Cup qualifier against Mali in Bamako on 7 June due to an outstanding legal dispute with her ex-girlfriend.

The Chelsea ace is battling a suit by his ex-lover Dela Ackumey who is seeking huge divorce compensation after a failed attempt in England.

Essien is contesting Mrs Ackumey claims that she was married to the 26-year-old after a traditional ceremony was performed.

But Ackumey, who started the case in Ghana in 2007, realised that he was not having her way and the compensation package she wanted, travelled to England as a student and pursued the case where divorce settlements are huge.

But after her attempts failed in England she has returned to Ghana as her last resort which led to yesterday's hearing.

"It will depend what happens in court but i will try and do my maximum best to get everything quick. As it stands now, it's 50-50," Essien told the media.

"It's been going on for years now. I still try to put it behind me and go on the pitch and do my best. It's not going to take any effect.

"I have got some two or three days in court. I have to go and sort everything out and once I'm done i will go and join the team in Tamale," he added.

"I want to be in camp with my team mates but as I said I need to sort my court case out before I can join the team and the fans should not worry because am here for Ghana and I will everything possible to join the team."

Essien for AC Milan?

You want to hear my views about this?

Its sheer disbelief. Lets see what happens on the 1st of August.
Milan have been linked with a move for Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien in a deal which would see Andrea Pirlo move in the other direction, according to Il Corriere Dello Sport.

The report suggests current coach Carlo Ancelotti will take the Italian midfielder to Chelsea at the end of the season if he joins the club, which, according to Italian press, looks likely to happen. Neither club have made an official announcement on that, but there is widespread belief that Pirlo will follow the Italian to Stamford Bridge.

Milan are preparing themselves for the possible change and they will attempt to swap Pirlo for Chelsea's Ghana international. Leonardo is being tipped to take the reins at Milanello, and voices suggest the Brazilian is keen on Essien who would be comfortable playing in any position around the middle of the park. In addition, the Chelsea man can play in front of the defence, giving the team extra options tactically.

The Rossoneri are expected to make an official announcement regarding Ancelotti's future on Monday, where they will have a clearer idea of possible transfer movements for the summer.
Ghana Thrash Uganda

Congratulation!

However, we need to improve our performance before the giant Mali comes in because this performance in our own home ground can never give us a good result in our next coming away game.

I take delight in one fact. Frederic Kanouté of Mali is injured and will not play against Ghana. He was injured on the 22 may while playing for Sevilla against Osasuna. He didnt played their last match against CD Numancia in which they won 2-0 for UEFA Europa League spot.

Hoping the ''big boys'', Michael Essien, Sulley Muntari and Kwadwo Asamoah bring on board their loyalty and commitment to help me have a beautiful 2010. Lol:d

A second string Black Stars gave their preparations for next week's World Cup qualifier against Mali a boost with a 2-1 win over Uganda at the Tamale Stadium on Sunday night.

Egypt-based striker Ernest Papa Arko scored after 31 minutes when he profited from a mix-up by Uganda's back line and fired a shot which was guided into the net by a defender.

Yusif Chibsah turned home the second goal from close range in the 75th minute but the Cranes got a consolation in the 86th minute.

Line-up:

George Owu, John Paintsil, Harrison Afful, Jonthan Mensah, Jonathan Quartey- Bernard Kumordzi, Yusif Chibsah, Samuel Kyere/ Haminu Draman- Opoku Agyemang/Prince Buaben, Joetex frimpong, Papa Arko/Samuel Inkoom

My Ultimate Comment:
This is not the best piece of news you would want to hear about our foreign based players prior to the biggest game in our group. Hoping that Suller has recovered from this and is fired up for the match I dub ''Bamako Battle''.

That punch would serve the robber right for robbing no other than Muntari himself!

Good Luck Buddy

Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari was robbed two hours after the end of Inter Milan's final Serie A match against Atalanta on Sunday.

The 25-year-old was driving along Via Monte Rosa and stopped at a traffic light when he was approached by two men on a scooter.

One of them was wearing an Inter scarf and walked up to Muntari’s car after getting off the scooter.

Muntari had his window rolled down and the man snatched his Big Bang Hublot watch worth €17,000.

The ex-Udinese and Portsmouth player jumped out of his car and hit one of the thieves with a punch, but the duo eventually managed to drive away.

Muntari netted the opener for champions Inter in a thrilling 4-3 win over Atalanta.
